There are definite similarities, but Lefkara leans more heavily on the traditions of Italian needle laces. The book begins with a history of Lefkara lace and traces the development of it to the Venetian needle laces.

I love this edging! I think there is a painting Dutch perhaps of a woman using a lap pillow as an embroidery aid.
